Bosch Dishwasher E25 Code: Meaning & Fixes
- Meaning
- Drain pump blocked: an object or debris is stopping the drain pump.
- Can I fix it?
- Yes, usually a DIY fix
- Seen on
- Bosch dishwashers. E24 is a related code for a blocked drain hose or filter.
E25 on a Bosch dishwasher means the drain pump is blocked. Something has stopped the pump from turning or from pushing water out: a piece of glass, a fruit pit, a label off a jar. You can usually clear it yourself in a few minutes, using the handle of a spoon to open the pump cover under the filter.
Try this first
- Remove the filter and check the area under it for glass, pits or labels.
- Open the drain pump cover under the filter with a spoon handle and clear what's inside.
- Press the pump cover back until it clicks into place.
- Turn the dishwasher off and back on and run a short cycle.
What causes E25
| Cause | What you notice | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Object under the pump cover | Rattling or humming during drain | Under the pump cover below the filter |
| Pump cover not seated | E25 right after you cleaned the filter area | The cover should click in and sit flat |
| Food and grease buildup | Slow drain that got worse over time | The filter and the sump |
| Failed drain pump | No sound from the pump, nothing stuck in it | Needs a technician |
Fix it step by step
-
Turn off the power
Switch the dishwasher off at the circuit breaker.
Safety: Make sure the power is off before you put your fingers near the pump.
-
Remove water and the filter
Scoop out any standing water, then turn the filter counterclockwise and lift it out.
-
Open the pump cover
Below the filter is a small cover, often white, held by a latch. Hook the handle of a spoon under the tab and lever it up and out.
Safety: Broken glass often ends up here. Wear gloves.
-
Clear the pump
Remove anything you find under the cover. Check that the pump wheel underneath can turn freely; you can nudge it with a finger.
-
Refit and test
Press the cover back in until it clicks, refit the filter, restore power and run a short cycle.
When to call a technician
If the pump area is clear, the cover is seated, and E25 still comes back, or the pump makes no sound at all, the drain pump has likely failed. A technician can replace it.
Questions people ask
What's the difference between E25 and E24 on a Bosch dishwasher?
E25 points to the drain pump itself being blocked. E24 points to the drain path after the pump, usually the filter, hose or sink connection. Clearing the pump cover and the filter covers both.
Where is the drain pump cover on a Bosch dishwasher?
Under the filter at the bottom of the tub. Take the filter out and you'll see a small cover with a latch tab. A spoon handle fits under the tab to lift it.
Can I run my Bosch dishwasher with E25?
No. With a blocked pump the dishwasher can't drain, so water will stay in the tub. Clear the pump first.
