Electrolux Washer E11 Code: Meaning & Fixes
- Meaning
- Long fill: the washer isn't filling with water during the wash phase of the cycle.
- Can I fix it?
- Yes, usually a DIY fix
- Seen on
- Electrolux front-load washers. Frigidaire front-load washers built on the same platform use E11 for the same fill problem.
Before you start unplugging things, know this: Electrolux says E11 can lock the washer for up to 6 minutes, and unplugging it starts that wait over again. The cause Electrolux calls a known installation issue is hot and cold supply lines swapped at the taps. Low water pressure, closed taps and clogged inlet screens come next.
Try this first
- Wait up to 6 minutes. E11 can lock the washer, and unplugging it restarts the lock.
- Check that the hot and cold hoses aren't reversed at the taps.
- Open both water taps fully.
- Test the pressure at another tap. Electrolux requires 30 to 120 psi.
- Don't run water elsewhere in the house while the washer fills.
What causes E11
| Cause | What you notice | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Hot and cold lines reversed | E11 after the washer was installed or moved | Follow each hose to its tap |
| Taps not fully open | Slow fill from the start | Both taps behind the washer |
| Low water pressure | Other taps run weak too | At least 30 psi, no more than 10 psi difference between hot and cold |
| Kinked hose or clogged inlet screens | Weak flow into the dispenser | The hoses and the screens in the washer inlets |
| Siphoning from a low standpipe | Water enters but the tub doesn't fill | Standpipe at least 24 inches high |
| Faulty inlet valve or pressure sensor | Supply is fine but E11 returns | Needs a technician |
Fix it step by step
Tap a step number to tick it off as you go. Ticks stay on this device.
-
Let the lock time out
Wait up to 6 minutes for the washer to unlock. Don't unplug it, or the 6 minutes start over.
-
Check the hose connections
Close the taps and unplug the washer. Make sure the hot hose goes to the hot tap and the cold hose to the cold tap.
Safety: Keep a towel ready. The hoses hold water under pressure.
-
Clean the inlet screens
Unscrew the hoses from the back of the washer and clean the sediment off the mesh screens in the inlets.
-
Reconnect and open the taps
Hand-tighten the hoses, then tighten them 2/3 of a turn more with pliers. Open both taps fully.
-
Check the drain standpipe
If water comes in but the tub never fills, the standpipe may be too low. It should be at least 24 inches high, and no higher than 56.5 inches.
-
Test
Plug the washer in and start a cycle. Water should start filling within 2 minutes of pressing Start.
When to call a technician
If the hoses, taps, screens and water pressure are all fine and E11 keeps coming back, the inlet valve or the pressure sensor may have failed. Electrolux says to contact your installer if the washer was installed or moved in the last 30 days, and to schedule service otherwise.
Questions people ask

What water pressure does an Electrolux washer need?
Between 30 and 120 psi, with no more than 10 psi difference between the hot and cold supply.
