About Maytag error codes

Maytag is part of Whirlpool Corporation, and Maytag appliances share most of their codes with Whirlpool and KitchenAid models built on the same platforms. The F number generally points to a system of the appliance and the E number to the specific fault. F9 E1, for example, is a long drain on both washers and dishwashers.

On dishwashers without a display, the Clean light flashes the code instead: count the first burst of flashes for the F number and the second for the E number.

Many Maytag codes come down to installation, such as how deep the drain hose sits in the standpipe or whether the garbage disposal knockout plug was removed. Check those before you assume a part has failed.
