This policy explains what information ErrorCode.info (“we”, “the site”) collects when you visit, how it is used, and the choices you have. If you have a question, email contact@errorcode.info.
Information we collect
You don’t need an account to use the site, and we don’t ask for your name, email or address.
- Server logs. Like any website, our hosting provider records technical data for each request: IP address, browser type, the page requested, the referring page and the time. These logs are used to keep the site running and secure.
- What you type in search. Search terms are processed to show matching pages. We don’t link them to you.
- Cookies and similar technologies. Described below.
- Email. If you write to us, we receive your email address and message and use them only to reply.
Cookies and local storage
The site uses these:
- Your cookie choice (local storage,
ec_consent): remembers whether you accepted or rejected cookies. - Display settings (local storage,
ec_display): remembers text size, contrast and spacing if you change them. - Repair step ticks (local storage): remembers which steps you ticked off on a code page.
- Google Analytics (cookies such as
_ga): counts visits and shows which pages are useful, with only aggregated reports available to us. - Google AdSense (advertising cookies): shows ads and measures them. With your consent, ads may be personalized based on your browsing.
The first three never leave your device. You can clear them in your browser settings at any time.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can also opt out of personalized advertising from many companies at aboutads.info.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used. Google processes this data under its own Privacy Policy. You can block Google Analytics in any browser with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, or by rejecting cookies in our cookie notice.
Your choices
When you first visit, a cookie notice lets you accept or reject cookies for ads and analytics. You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
- Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland: ad personalization and analytics cookies stay off until you accept.
- Visitors in the United States: they are on by default and you can turn them off by choosing Reject. Under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, showing personalized ads can count as “sharing” personal information; choosing Reject opts you out of it. We also honor this choice if you ask us by email.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to or limit how it is used. Because we don’t keep accounts, most data we could identify is in our email inbox. Email contact@errorcode.info and we’ll answer within 30 days. Visitors in the EEA and UK may also complain to their local data protection authority.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.
Links to other sites
Pages may link to other websites, such as manufacturer support pages. Their privacy practices are their own.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the effective date at the top of this page.
