Bosch Washer E17 Code: Meaning & Fixes
- Meaning
- Water supply time exceeded: the washer didn't fill in time, usually from clogged inlet filters or low pressure.
- Can I fix it?
- Yes, usually a DIY fix
- Also shown as
- F17, F29
- Seen on
- Bosch front-load washers. Bosch lists E17, F17 and F29 together. Some 24-inch compact models show a tap symbol for the same supply failure.
E17 on a Bosch washer means the water supply time was exceeded: the washer didn’t fill in time. Bosch points to clogged filters in the water connection or AquaStop hose, or water pressure that’s too low. Every step Bosch lists is something you can do yourself, starting with a simple flow test at the tap.
Try this first
- Open the water tap fully.
- Check the supply hose for kinks.
- Clean the filters at the tap end and the washer end of the supply hose.
- Check the flow: a fully open tap should give about 2.5 gallons (10 liters) per minute.
What causes E17
| Cause | What you notice | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Tap closed or partly closed | Slow fill from the start | The water tap behind the washer |
| Clogged inlet filters or AquaStop filter | Weak flow into the dispenser | Filters at both ends of the supply hose |
| Kinked supply hose | E17 after the washer was moved | The hose between tap and washer |
| Low water pressure | Weak flow at the tap | Bosch's spec is 14.5 to 145 psi |
| Failed inlet valve | Good flow but E17 returns | Needs a technician |
Fix it step by step
Tap a step number to tick it off as you go. Ticks stay on this device.
-
Release the pressure
Turn off the water tap. Select any wash cycle (not Drain or Spin), press Start/Pause, wait 30 seconds, then turn the selector to Off.
Safety: The hose may still hold some water. Keep a towel ready.
-
Clean the tap-end filter
Unscrew the supply hose from the tap and clean the filter with a small brush under running water.
Safety: On AquaStop models, don't put the hose in water. It contains an electric valve.
-
Clean the washer-end filter
On models without AquaStop, remove the hose from the back of the washer, pull the filter out with narrow pliers and rinse it.
-
Reconnect and check the flow
Reconnect the hose, open the tap fully and check for leaks. About 2.5 gallons (10 liters) per minute should flow from the open tap; if it's much less, call a plumber.
-
Test
Run a warm wash cycle and check that water flows in.
When to call a technician
If the tap is fully open, the filters are clean and the flow is good but E17 returns, call Bosch customer support or a technician to test the inlet valve. For weak flow at the tap, call a plumber instead.
