Miele Dishwasher F14 Code: Meaning & Fixes
- Meaning
- Water intake fault: the circulation pump is stuck, or a pressure or heating level switch has a fault.
- Can I fix it?
- Sometimes, may need a pro
- Seen on
- Miele dishwashers with a code display. Miele groups F14 with the water inlet faults F12, F13 and F15.
Miele lists two possible causes for F14. The common one is a circulation pump that dried out and stuck during a long break between cycles, which a warm water soak can free. The other is a technical fault in the water intake: the pump pressure or heating level switch. Try the soak, then a restart, before booking a repair.
Try this first
- Remove the lower spray arm and the filter combination.
- Pour about 1 liter (1 quart) of warm water, no hotter than 165°F, with 3 to 5 drops of rinse aid into the base of the tub, and wait about 5 minutes.
- Refit the filter and spray arm and restart the program. Repeat 2 to 3 times if needed.
- If F14 still shows, switch the dishwasher off, wait a few seconds and switch it back on.
What causes F14
| Cause | What you notice | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Circulation pump dried out and stuck | F14 after weeks without use | Warm water and rinse aid soak |
| Pump pressure or heating level switch fault | F14 returns after soaking and a restart | Needs Miele Customer Service |
| Water intake problem | Little water in the tub | Water valve open, inlet hose not kinked |
Fix it step by step
Tap a step number to tick it off as you go. Ticks stay on this device.
-
Remove the spray arm and filter
Take out the lower spray arm, then twist the filter combination handle back and lift it out.
-
Soak the pump
Pour about 1 liter (1 quart) of warm water with 3 to 5 drops of rinse aid into the base of the tub. Leave it for about 5 minutes.
Safety: Risk of scalding. Don't use water hotter than 165°F (75°C).
-
Refit and restart
Refit the filter combination so it lies flat, refit the spray arm and restart the program. Repeat the soak 2 to 3 times if F14 comes back.
-
Restart the electronics
If F14 persists, switch the dishwasher off, wait a few seconds, switch it on, select the program and start it.
-
Load with care
Turn hollow items upside down and secure light crockery, so it can't tip over and collect water during the cycle.
When to call a technician
If F14 persists after the soak and a restart, contact Miele Customer Service or book a repair. A fault in the pressure or heating level switch, or a pump that won't free up, needs a Miele technician.
Questions people ask
Why does F14 appear after my dishwasher sat unused?
Miele says the circulation pump can dry out and stick during long breaks between cycles. A warm water and rinse aid soak usually frees it.
Is F14 the same as F78 on a Miele dishwasher?
They overlap. Both can mean a stuck circulation pump and use the same soak. F14 can also point to a water intake fault in a level switch.
Does F14 mean a door lock problem?
No. Miele lists only the circulation pump and the pressure or heating level switch as causes.
