Samsung Washer OE Code: Meaning & Fixes
- Meaning
- Overflow error: the washer detected too much water in the drum.
- Can I fix it?
- Sometimes, may need a pro
- Also shown as
- OF, OC, 0C
- Seen on
- Samsung front-load and top-load washers. Some models show OF or OC. On some older top-load models OE means a water level sensor fault; check your manual.
Samsung lists OE, 0E and OC together as an overflow error: too much water in the drum. Heavy suds can cause it. So can a water level reading that’s off, or an inlet valve that doesn’t close, which low water pressure under 20 psi can also cause. On some older top-loaders OE meant a water level sensor fault instead.
Try this first
- Turn the washer off and unplug it. If water keeps flowing in with the power off, close both taps behind the washer.
- Check for heavy suds in the drum. Use only HE detergent, in the amount the label gives for your load size, or less for small loads.
- Run Spin Only (Drain/Spin on some models) to empty the drum, then start a short cycle and watch the fill.
- Check the drain hose and, on a front-loader, the debris filter.
What causes OE
| Cause | What you notice | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Too many suds | Foam fills the door glass | Detergent type and amount |
| Water inlet valve stuck open | Water keeps running in with the washer unplugged | Close the taps; the valve needs replacing |
| Low water pressure | OE in a home with weak water flow | Below 20 psi the inlet valve may not close fully |
| Blocked or loose pressure hose | Washer overfills on every cycle | Needs a technician |
| Faulty water level sensor | OE with no visible overfill | Needs a technician to test it |
Fix it step by step
Tap a step number to tick it off as you go. Ticks stay on this device.
-
Stop the water
Unplug the washer. If you still hear water running in, close both taps behind it straight away.
Safety: Water running with the power off means the inlet valve is stuck open. Keep the taps closed until it is replaced.
-
Drain the drum
Plug the washer back in, select Spin Only (Drain/Spin on some models) and let it finish.
-
Rinse out the suds
If the drum was full of foam, run Rinse+Spin with no detergent until no suds are left.
-
Test the fill
Open the taps and start a short cycle with a small load. Watch the water level. It should stay well below the door opening.
When to call a technician
Call a technician if water flows in with the washer unplugged, or if OE returns without suds. Both point to the inlet valve, the pressure hose or the water level sensor, which sit inside the cabinet near live wiring.
Questions people ask
Is OE the same as 0E on a Samsung washer?
Yes. The display uses a letter O, but it looks like a zero. Both mean too much water in the drum.
Can detergent cause an OE code?
Yes. Thick suds can push the level reading up. Use only HE detergent, in the amount the label gives for your load size, or less for small loads.
Is Samsung OE the same as LG OE?
No. On a Samsung washer OE means too much water. On an LG washer OE means the washer can't drain.
